Happy Mothers Day!
I'm coming up for air after a couple months of rabbit holing it here in my sensual paradise, merging evermore sublimely with the beauty that surrounds and consumes me.
While I've been intimately communing with my surroundings and excited to bring the feelings and sensations they inspire back into the studio with me, I have to admit, this hasn't been the easiest time of art making. New techniques and materials have pushed and pulled me, alot. Some techniques I've learned from other artists and some I've happened on through experimentation or accidents.
More than ever, there's been lots of frustration. But with that there have also been many delightful surprises. I'm watching this dance and trusting that my life and my art are served by these labor pains. The work ultimately speaks for itself and even with the challenges, I'm loving birthing my Naked Now series for a solo show this September.
Besides my long walks and my intermittent dalliances with paint and organic materials in my studio, I've been lounging with book in hand learning lots of fun facts about 3 of my music idols, Carol King, Joni Mitchell and Carly Simon, "Girls Like us, The Journey of a Generation", by Sheila Weller, is a delicious read that has had me spellbound. I'm a slow reader so when I take on a book of this size, 500 + pages, I know I'll be disappearing for a good long while. If you have loved their music as I have, I highly recommend this well written biography. Even if you haven't loved their music, there's so much juicy information about this musical era in general. It's a factually fascinating 60's-80"s music history read, and womens' place in it, IMO. I'm profoundly inspired and empowered by their devotion to their craft.

Here I am with my 4 legged companions Kika and Kinji. They trot beside me on their little legs on my morning and evening beach walks, witnessing my meanderings and my floating flirtations in the local tide pools. For the most part, they wait patiently if I stop to paint, float or do some yoga. I'm blown away by the ever flowing fountains of love they embody. Believe it or not, they're siblings and have never been apart from each other. They just turned 8 and have been with us since they were rescued from a dumpster at 3 months old here in Mexico. I'm gushing with appreciation for their presence in my life.
